The UK has experienced its warmest winter day on record according to the Met Office, with the temperature at Kew reaching 21.2C (70.2F), breaking the record for February set only on Monday (over 20C) and the previous record of 19.7C in Greenwich in 1998. It certainly brought the crowds out into the gardens as though it was a summer’s day.

The average temperature for this time of year is 9C in London, so what we’re seeing is 10 degrees above average, according to the Met Office. It was certainly a big change from the beginning of February, when sub-zero temperatures were recorded across the country. And remember what the square looked like last year when ‘the beast from the east’ brought heavy snow and lows of -5C!
