Local Friends groups have breathed a sigh of relief that, thanks to considerable local protest, the Evening Standard has decided not to go ahead with a festival that would have effectively closed the square for more than two weeks in the summer month of June and caused the need for reinstatement of grass etc lasting several months. Such a long, large-scale event is inappropriate in a garden square and it is hoped better guidelines for the suitability of events and better early consultation with local groups will be developed by Camden as a result of this experience.
