Todd Longstaffe-Gowan, author of The London Square: gardens in the midst of town, will be talking  about the history and development of these special Bloomsbury squares,one of which is the oldest to bear the name of ‘square’ at UCL School of Pharmacy, Brunswick Sq, on Tuesday, 18 October 2016 from 19:30 to 21:00. Todd is the president of the London Parks and Gardens Trust. A landscape architect with an international practice based in London, he has advised on many public and private historic gardens, including National Trust and English Heritage historic landscapes. He lectures widely on landscape history and design both in Britain and abroad, and holds a variety of advisory roles, including gardens adviser to Historic Royal Palaces. The talk takes place on the eve of the Bloomsbury Festival 19 -23 October. As part of the festival Ricci de Freitas, author of the forthcoming book ‘From Fields to Fountains – the Story of Bloomsbury’s Russell Square’, will be leading a walking history tour of Russell Square on Friday 21 October at 2pm, starting from outside the south-east entrance to the gardens, opposite the Imperial Hotel.
