Members of the Friends groups of the various Bloomsbury gardens held their annual garden evening recently in Mecklenburgh Square. A sudden light shower did not detract from the enjoyment of getting together after such a long period of social restrictions.
The volunteer groups have their own activities in each square but join together to share information and ideas several times a year. They are always pleased to welcome new faces. Every square has a group that would welcome newcomers who are keen to help enhance the garden square experience for locals and visitors alike. There are many ways to help apart from actual gardening. Some groups do have regular volunteer gardening sessions that people can join in with regularly or occasionally. Other groups concentrate on running cultural events. The groups have recently published an illustrated book Bloomsbury’s Squares and Gardens to celebrate the gardens of the area and raise funds for their continuing work.
