Left to their own devices over the various Covid lockdowns, the tree pits were in need of a makeover. Three volunteers from the Marchmont Community Garden and two residents of Foundling Court recently cleared the grass and weeds, liberated the few remaining worthwhile plants and put in some new ones.

It rained heavily afterwards (good) but this brought up hundreds of weed seedlings (bad), so a quick weeding session followed. Not all the plants have grown well, but they will continue to be replaced and watered from time to time.
Although drought tolerant plants have been chosen, they have a hard job surviving under the rain shadow of trees in hot dry pavement environment.
Thanks to all the people who stopped to compliment the volunteers! Enjoy and respect the renovated street scene.
