Bloomsbury is an area inextricably linked with literature new and old. Look out for specially designed benches in some of the Bloomsbury Squares from 1 July. They’ll look like giant open books, with exciting artwork relating to well-known literary characters.

Books about Town aims to highlight reading for enjoyment. New interpretations of classics alongside careful preservation of historic characters will create exiting viewing for regular and new visitors to open spaces in the Bloomsbury area.

Books about Town is a project of the National Literacy Trust. It’s hoped that, as well as being a fundraiser to support their work with children, families and deprived communities to improve literacy levels, the project will promote reading for enjoyment and encourage people to discover more books. It’s certainly going to increase people’s interest in the literary history of our city.
