Weathering the storms – tree news

During this stormy weather that we have been fortunate to have had very little damage, as our trees are an  important feature of the Bloomsbury squares. However, in Tavistock Square we  have lost one of our age-old plane trees through disease.  Camden Council Tree Department pointed out the remaining stump to us so that we could see exactly what had happened.  When Tavistock Square was upgraded in 2010 we acquired four ornamental bay trees which certainly added to the attraction of the garden, but sadly recently two have been removed or stolen!  On the plus side, though many of the lime trees which surround the lawns had been lost over the years,  thankfully these have now been completely replaced, enhancing a visit to the Square.  Margaret Brett, Founder of Friends of Tavistock Square
