A memorial for Eliza Fenning proposed in St George’s Gardens

There will be a special agenda item at the Friends of St George’s Gardens AGM meeting, about a proposal to put a memorial in the Gardens to Eliza Fenning. Eliza was the poor cook who was hanged so cruelly in 1815 and who was buried in the Gardens. The proposal is being taken forward by St George the Martyr church in Queen Square (where her funeral was held) but with FoSGG’s active support. You may have seen notices in the Gardens about a consultation to find out whether there is support for this memorial. We need to consult before we can get the necessary permissions from the Diocese of London and from Camden Council. So come to the meeting, tell us what you think and vote on the proposal as well.

The AGM is on Thursday 26 March at 7pm, at the Coram building, just past the Foundling Museum on the north side of Brunswick Square. Many thanks to Coram for letting us use this meeting room again. In addition to the usual business meeting there will be a talk from our guest speaker, Camden Guide Christ Foster.
