Girls in the Garden, Brunswick Square

Arranged by the Association of Bloomsbury Squares and Gardens together with the Camden Open Spaces team, the goal of these free sessions* is to inspire and engage girls from the local area, encouraging them to feel safe and spend time outdoors discovering nature.

The inaugural workshop, “Self-Care with Nature,” took place on May 29th, 2024, at the beautiful Brunswick Square Gardens. Blessed with perfect weather in a showery week, the event was set under a magnificent tree canopy. The setting provided a serene and inspiring backdrop for the participants to unwind and connect with nature.

Designed by The Wild Remedy, the workshop focused on teaching the girls about fresh and natural ingredients that could be used to create self-care herbal products. The attendees were guided through the process of making their very own herbal bath salts and sprays whilst being able to hold conversation with each other and meet other females. They also had the opportunity to choose and drink freshly made herbal tea from a selection of herbs in clay pots that adorned the workshop table. The experience allowed the girls to relax, be present, and immerse themselves in the therapeutic process of creating something with their hands. Passersby stopped to learn more or wanted to join in.

To capture the essence of the day, A’level Photography student Niamh was on hand. Her project on ‘overconsumption’ aligned perfectly with the workshop’s theme, providing a thoughtful and artistic documentation of the event.

* The GIRLS IN THE GARDEN nature workshops are FREE of charge. They will provide an opportunity for girls only to take part in creative outdoor nature craft activities within the famous gardens of Bloomsbury, whilst encouraging girls to enjoy the outdoors in their local parks & gardens.
